The 2021 Life in Colour Challenge, hosted by Travel Words, is encouraging bloggers to look at different colours around them each month. June’s colours are white and silver. So, here are some natural whites from The Oaks, in all their varied hues – silver to follow!

Gilbert K Chesterton
“White is not a mere absence of colour… it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red and as definitive as black… God paints in many colours, but he never paints so gorgeously, I almost said gaudily, as when he paints in white.”

Rumi
“A white flower grows in the silence. Let your tongue be that flower”

Lewis Carroll
“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields that it kisses them so gently
and then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt;
and perhaps it says,
‘Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again’.'”

Bursts of aromatic wild garlic flowers fill our local woodland with their pungent spring aroma. Set under the paper white trunks, lit by shafts of bright white, early season sunlight:

Wow Emma, such fabulous galleries, you have a delightful place and surroundings. Brice is so sweet. And those eggs a surprise! I don’t think I have seen a snake here, let alone the eggs. Once again your choices are superb. Thank you.

Thanks so much, Jude… It was such an honour that the grass snake thought that one of our huge leaf mulch stores provided her eggs with suitable accommodation! 🙂

How on earth did you know what they were?

I suspected but was not sure, so asked a local wildlife expert for definitive identification – he is an amazing oracle on any aspect of wildlife flora and fauna!

An amazing gallery of whites Emma. Love the bees and butterflies as a bonus and Little Brice is so cute 🙂 🙂

Thank you! Yes he is beautiful – though a bit of a bulldozer now: loves using the pampas grass as a trampoline and is definitely the ‘leader’ amongst this year’s happy gaggle of lambs!

I thoroughly enjoyed scrolling through all your white photos! I love little Brice, and was interested to see the snake eggs!

Thank you so much! It was such a lovely surprise to find the eggs – I gently replaced them, and had to use a different mulch pile for my veg beds for the following few weeks! 🙂
