October’s colour challenge, set by Jude at Travel Words, is Orange: a colour which is often thought to symbolise joy, warmth and creativity. As a teacher who has spent much of my working life in primary schools, I associate it closely with Autumn – harvest, halloween, and happy pumpkin-esque decorations!
Happy Orange Blooms
… Bringing fiery warmth and bright joy to the early autumn borders.
Oranges and other edibles!
Orange gerbera, like sunflowers, are such happy flowers; perfect for an autumn tea tray!
Orange & windfall chutney, and Apple & dried apricot jam both have wonderful deep orange colours.
Homegrown carrots seem more orange than shop bought ones – just as they’re more tasty!
Homemade Chocolate dipped candied orange makes special christmas treats & pick’n mix chillies include fiery oranges…
Orange wings, feathers, fungi & milk bar
Local oranges!
One of our local walks passes through a fascinating farmer’s yard. He has a collection of ex-forces helicopters which he & his friends are restoring painstakingly… bright yellow and orange rescue models amongst them.
The funky orange coffee van is a popular draw at Horsham’s twice weekly market: it also seems to provide a rescue service to coffee addicts!
Orange ties
Living with a sailor, whenever a knatty knot is needed, we have the perfect piece of rope, string or chord… Oscars fav is an old orange rope. I reckon its vintage status means it is packed with smells as well as knotty texture… and its a great ‘vintage’ orange colour!

What a fabulous colour challenge, as illustrated by your delightful photos! I love Autumn and all that nature offers at this time. However, I don’t have anything orange in my wardrobe, perhaps I should!

Once again you amaze me with your selections. George and Oscar and Geraldine steal the show of course, but so many lovely photos – the helicopters, that van, the edibles, those blooms! Thank you once again Emma for brightening my Sunday 🧡🧡

Thank you so much Jude; really appreciated. We are so blessed with George, Osar, the (feathered) girls and all our other wonderful animals!
Looking forward to finding out what colour the next flash of the rainbow will be next month! 🙂

Ah, well, no rainbow colour next month, but I am sure you will come up with something.

A splendid range of images. George and Oscar are both endearing and I like the reference to smells in old rope.

You have just about covered all the bases of October oranges and golds, except for fall sweaters. I am wearing mine today, over a pair of black-and-white checked corduroys.

Funny you should say that – the thought of orange woolies crossed my mind as, by chance, I was wearing mine when I wrote this post! A good orange sweater is a happy way to take the first steps towards winter!

Oh, I did enjoy spending time with you on your patch. Though I didn’t really appreciate all those delicious looking foodstuffs being only virtual …
